They also lack pizazz the water-splash effect in WRC 6, for instance, is an abject anticlimax. However, WRC 6’s stages are nowhere near as handsome. While there’s not a huge number of stages per country, that’s about twice the amount of locations featured in Dirt Rally. There’s a great variety of stages as they’re spread across all 14 countries from the 2016 World Rally Championship, and there are a number of extremely technical two-car Super Special Stages amongst them (though no rallycross tracks). The sense of velocity is also terrific because of the cramped, obstacle-lined roads even modest speeds feel fast when hazards are whipping by in such close proximity to your car.
WRC 6’s strongest feature is its narrow and lengthy stages. From the slippery asphalt of the Monte Carlo Rally to the Finnish street stages that were patently designed. It’s an impressively authentic recreation of the WRC series and its two feeder championships, and you can work your way through them all in the fun, compulsively playable Career Mode. But hey – that’s still pretty damn good, and since it’s certainly more accessible for newcomers, it’s still worthy of your attention. environmental detail, motion fluidity, sensation of weight and subtlety of control – there’s no question WRC 6 instantly debuts as ‘only’ the second best rally game available for current-gen consoles. It’s not always very pretty, and it can’t really touch its competition in terms of content, but WRC 6 is the most fun I’ve had with an officially licensed WRC game in over a decade.
